Shelter In Place [EP]

by Lilac Shadows

/
1.
Time alone is longer than it used to be Days go by like unfamiliar memories When you’re trapped inside Settled in a life that isn’t yours—it sure isn’t mine Sheltering in a common ceremony Safe from harm that trickles through the streets While cemeteries speak your language Though the accent is unclear, the voice is drawing near Hide inside, protect me from the waters Rising all around tonight, deny there’s nothing coming after you and I don’t matter now Will you promise me you’ll stay right where you are? Just stay right where you are Just stay right where you are
2.
There’s flowers in your hair silver, gold and grey They're floating down the river in the California haze You’re echoing from room to room Your limbs will twist and dance to the sound of some fine tune Lift me up high so I can breathe The laughter is faint, but the pain is real There’s light behind the door still glowing red and white You’re tucked inside the orbit of a slowly dying sun The future tense will only break your heart A miracle of machine and coiled chrome Lift me up high so I can breathe There’s death in the air, and blood in my teeth When the flood lights open, and the picture begins All the glowing faces will turn their eyes to you Will you dissolve into the evening, carried off again Will you speak your last devotion, and fade into the wind

Almost Blue 03:52
When I lie beneath your moon Your tender light shades and soothes And it turns my ideas into glass And I shatter myself falling for you Almost blue... When I wish upon your star The darkness in between your arms It molds and renews-me in the black And I cling to your grace wherever you are Almost blue... And all those lonely nights I spent with you I was broken, I was cold, I was cruel, screaming, “Take me, hold me, heal me, show me how I can get from where I am to where you are"
4.
Shimmering in silence, your ancient waters sleep Like reflections in a mirror, coming close but never nearer This cold blue air that floats at your feet It pierces through me as I chase you down But you drift on by heavy as the rain You disappear just as I call your name My moon-colored sun, darker than a winter’s day Soon comes the dawn to break you from this fever And shatter the belief that your holy light was ever meant to fade Floating through the hours, you breathe but cannot speak Like a memory still receding, pulling close and then retreating This cold blue air that floats at your feet It pierces through me as I chase you down But you disappear like the tide inside the waves And you drift away just as I call your name My moon-colored sun, darker than a winter’s day Soon comes the dawn, you’re living in a fever A broken unbeliever in spite of what your sacred light still sparks in me
